PERSONALITY
Okay, so, getting the big one out of the way: a very important thing to know about Rennuid is,
the man has a Wisdom score of 8.
Ditzy is a charitable word you can use. Rennuid is well-read and thoughtful, but his actual judgment, that he personally ACTS on is terrible. He really will read a sign that says DON'T, agree with what it's saying, but then come up with a really good(?) reason to defy it anyway.
He's also... very nervy. This probably contributes to the bad decision making, on account of doing lots of hemming and hawing until he gives up and does what he most wanted to do in the first place.

BACKGROUND
SIGNIFICANT CONNECTIONS
Mirhosa Tathviel :: Father. Died when Rennuid was very young, but not too young that he doesn't remember him. A terrifyingly strong sorcerer who nonetheless bore an air of fragility... One day, he simply walked into the woods & never came back.
Vaerdet Dolvmeer :: Mother. Though in a way she knew she'd lose her husband young, Vaerdet responded to his loss in turns with listlessness, then a ferocious need to make sure her children would be well able to protect themselves.
Completely unable to perceive the spirits with which she oft communed, for this and many other reasons Rennuid often felt there was a wall between them he simply couldn't scale.
Guelhenthart Tathviel :: Eldest sibling, Rennuid's only brother. An arcane cartographer who would swoop in home to visit, lavish gifts and stories, then leave. More of an untouchable idol than someone Rennuid really knows, Guelhenthart has been a constant traveler of the world since before Rennuid was even born.
Viromil Tathviel :: Eldest sister. Frankly more of a stable parent to Rennuid than either of his actual ones, Viromil nonetheless deeply resented how the role unfairly fell to her, and would lash out often at Rennuid as the perceived root of her problems.
Llmedha Tathviel :: Older sister. The sibling he is... was closest to, before contact dwindled down to nothing between them, in no small part due to Allegory's machinations.
GllChk the Fair - The knight who slew the beast. His best friend. Maybe definitely a little in love with him. Cherishes dearly, but also despises in moments of weakness.
Mia Hallowmark - A human noble whose body has been turned into animate stone. The essential "friend he is not deeply obsessed with impressing." They are very different people, but mutual respect for those differences has brought them closer together. Tend to bring out one another's immature sides.
Aesaelion Tathviel - Rennuid's great... great, great, I don't remember how many nephew, who revives him the state of a lingering shade.
Allegory - In Rennuid's mind, it is the most important thing to ever happen to him, even now. A supernatural monster that took advantage of a naïve youth.

There was a boy, who was very lonely, and then there was an ancient beast, who was also very lonely. And this beast made a wicked, vile choice about its loneliness.
The word that was built between them changed form with a sickening ease. From 'stranger' to 'friend' to 'confidant'... to 'lover,' 'beloved', 'betrothed.'
But boys, even terribly abused ones who have lost their childhood, their identity, and their future to selfish adults, eventually get older. And that is what happened to this boy.
Rennuid Tathviel proclaimed himself the priest of a lost god, the day he became an adult. He went off into the woods to an ancient ruin, offering it as sanctuary to any who dare follow. The name of his god was a jealous secret he kept to himself, until...
...One day, a knight errant came, asking if this place was the very barrow that the beast, As-It-Follows, had been long ago trapped within. The tidy little world Rennuid had created with his 'beloved' crumbled to ash under that fair knight's steps. Eventually, they clashed: spell against steel, until Rennuid's will to ignore everything wrong in his life broke beneath that man's sword. After opening the way, he trailed the knight into the chamber where Allegory waited.
...Rennuid stood by, as the Knight GllChk and the false god clashed, til finally, the 'god' was slain. The scorn and betrayal in that beast's heart was as cold and rotten as its abandoned body... it turned itself into a curse upon Rennuid, nestling within his very family name.
..it could only awaken and rage within its victims for so long, before it would grow tired, and need to rest some time more... and so began a dynasty of slow, terrible deaths, their onset striking always as a bolt from the blue.
...but Rennuid would never live to see the fate to which his entire lineage was consigned. For the reminder of his life, he would take up as GllChk's travelling companion, aimless and afraid of showing his face around anyone he'd ever known as the 'Priest at Gorfuin.' Recently, however, he suspects something is dearly wrong with him. He is assailed by daily pains, strange bruises, and when he's cut -- he often bleeds forth ink.
He finds himself turning regularly, now, to the succor of an artifact known as the Mirror of Serrosperri, finding in the mirror a sense of being naught but a phantom eye, free of his pains, watching other worlds unfold...
