- born to Mirhosa Tathviel, father and Vaerdet Dolvmeer, mother. youngest of four children. his family lives in a small village named Aldua'denac (Bowyer's Retreat) hidden deep in Gorogor'nac (the 'Skittering Wood'). it's a very impoverished settlement, that was halved in size by a war in his parents' lifetime.
- His father goes on a trip into the woods, and never comes back.
- His mother sinks into a deep depression, and his eldest sister, Viromil, has to step up to care for the two youngest siblings.
- His sister Llmedha moves away to Mill Town to the west, to work and send money home.
- When he turns the Elf Equivalent of 14 (70 years), Rennuid readies to perform a rite marking his formal entry into adolescence. The rite involves making a bow on one's own, with materials gathered yourself. in search of something truly special, Rennuid ventures into the wildest depths of the forest, known as Gorogor'taenac, and finds an abandoned temple beside a copse of trees he's never seen before.
- making his bow leads him to befriend a presence trapped within the temple, the living word Allegory.
- in exchange for offering him the materials to make his bow, Allegory requests to be given the bow after the rite is complete.
- 'wow that's kind of' yeah.
- the boy and the ancient word bond quickly; Allegory has been trapped since before elves ever lived here. it can't leave the temple, so Rennuid visits as much as he can to spend time with it.
- one day, Rennuid asks if Allegory is a god. Allegory, rather than answering, asks if he sees it as having the traits of one. Rennuid takes it as confirmation.
- to speak extremely clearly, this becomes a romantic relationship.
- when Rennuid officially passes into adulthood (age 100, aka 18 in normal years), he comes home and announces to the people of Aldua'denac he has met a lost god. it's also the day a spirit of a hill arises once every few years, needing to be defeated or pacified to send it back to sleep. armed with his "god's" power, Rennuid shatters the stone that's the true heart of the spirit. it crumbles to dust and blows away, leaving a wound in the ground where the hill itself had risen up to form its body.
- Rennuid starts the Cult at Gorfuin, though he extremely hates hearing it called that. he calls the temple Gorfuin'taenac, and welcomes anyone who wishes to come live there with him and be close to the divine. he assumes the role of high priest. he is also the only priest.
- he's uh, rocking the very literal bride of god lifestyle here, though he certainly doesn't call himself that in front of his congregants.
- after 48 years of running the cult, the knight errant Gllchk shows up at the temple. to Rennuid's bafflement, Allegory orders Rennuid to deny him shelter inside, so Rennuid suggests he camp in the shade of the temple, as all wildlife mysteriously avoids the grounds and the woods are normally quite dangerous.
- GllChk spends a few weeks at the temple, and Allegory's tension slowly increases. it's super tweaked out because GllChk is a Precursor, a member of the people who sealed it away and long ago emigrated away from Gorogor'nac. Precursors are big fuck-off bug people, ftr. GllChk is over 7ft and has.. uh... 7 sets of limbs.
- this part i don't know the exact chain of events, only that it happens. armed with evidence of Allegory's true nature, GllChk convinces the cult to break up, and most of the members depart. Rennuid, incensed, tosses him into the Otl, the labyrinthine underbelly of the temple, and follows him around taunting him as he navigates the place.
- but because Rennuid's hanging around him, it gives GllChk the chance to speak with him, and slowly break through the shell hiding Rennuid's suppressed inner turmoil. they fight various times, but eventually, it is Rennuid himself who opens the door for GllChk to enter Allegory's chamber, the heart of its existence. he follows GllChk in.
- GllChk slays Allegory. with its death rattle, it curses Rennuid for betraying it. quite literally. the curse, for now, rests latent in Rennuid's body, dwelling within the essence of itself it had impressed in him over the years. But in a year and a day the trouble will begin.
- with Rennuid left bereft of his purpose in life and almost catatonic with how despondent he is, GllChk takes him on as a traveling companion.
